A series of photographs from James’s work at Catching Sun House in London, UK, has been published over five pages in this month’s printed edition of Elle Decoration magazine. The house is designed by the brilliant British architecture practice Studio Shaw.
New commission: MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects
Canada’s celebrated MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects has commissioned James to photograph a series of new houses for a forthcoming book about the practice. James spent ten days travelling around Nova Scotia in late September for the project. Early autumn is a special time of year in the maritimes as the summer comes to a close, and his visit was blessed with beautiful misty light.
Cover sleeve: Canadian Architecture
Cover sleeve! One of James’s images has been published on the cover sleeve of a wonderful new book about new architecture in Canada. Canadian Architecture: Evolving A Cultural Identity features the work of 33 leading contemporary Canadian architecture practices, edited by Leslie Jen. The cover photograph is from a shoot at Winnipeg’s Old Market Square stage, designed by Canada’s 5468796 Architecture.
New publication: Architectural Record magazine, US
A series of James’s photographs showing The Beacon Clinic in Calgary, Canada, has been published in this month’s print edition of Architectural Record magazine in the United States. The building is designed by Canada’s award-winning 5468796 Architecture.
New Commission: Studio Shaw
The Uk’s celebrated Studio Shaw has commissioned James to photograph Catching Sun House, a new residential project in east London. The house is nestled in a tight sight between Victorian terraces, and is oriented to make the most of the prevailing light and views.
It’s the fist time James has travelled back tp the UK since the pandemic began. Several other new commissions were completed during the trip, including photography of a remodelled work space in central London for Jonathan Tuckey Design.

James has shot this month’s cover of Canadian Architect, Canada’s national magazine of record for architecture. The photograph is from a wider series for a story about Habitations St. Michel, a social housing scheme in Montreal designed by Saia Barbaresse Topouzanov Architects.
New commission: Corkin Gallery, Toronto
James has recently been commissioned to photograph three beautiful new exhibitions by The Corkin Gallery, Toronto’s celebrated contemporary art space.

James is working on Night Walks - a new series of photographs in response to public health confinement in his hometown of Montreal.
New commission: LTS Studios, London
James has just photographed the beautiful new London studios of the UK’s LTS Architects. The photography took place just two weeks before the public health lockdown. James has previously collaborated with LTS Architects on Hidden House, a private home in Chelsea.

The Uk’s Nex- has commissioned James to photograph Vardo, a new restaurant on the Duke of York Square in London’s Chelsea neighborhood.
Swiss National Museum, Christ & Gantenbein
James has made a seres of photographs at the Swiss National Museum in Zurich. The new extension to the museum is designed by architects Christ & Gantenbien.

Book published: Ernest Gimson life and work
James has shot the cover, frontispiece and principal photography for a new book about the English Arts and Crafts architect Ernest Gimson.
The book is published by Yale University Press, and has just been released worldwide following its release in London in November.
